Dansateliers is an independent house for contemporary dance based in Rotterdam with a local, national and international orientation. For twenty-five years the organisation has played an important role in the development, production and promotion of new generations of dance artists, ensuring an ongoing nurturing of the contemporary dance field. Dialogue is key to how the organization works with its collaborators, partners and makers. From a reflective standpoint, the house responds to the ever-changing world and adapts to new needs, working methods and contexts. The organization (co)initiates opportunities to ensure development and where necessary generate change on various levels.
Dansateliers offers the possibility for emerging dance makers to research and investigate ideas. The house supports choreographers in the search for their artistic identity and position within the contemporary dance field. Short and long term research and development trajectories are provided and in dialogue with the artist, trajectories are custom made. Support is offered on a dramaturgical and artistic level and also on an organizational level. Among our activities we include professional training, workshops and encounters with the audience. Dansateliers is subsidised structurally by the City Council, Department Arts and Culture of Rotterdam and has its studios and offices in an old school building in the centre city. For more than ten years the organization has collaborated in a variety of European partnership projects and has been a member of the European Dancehouse Network since 2016.
