Promoting choreographic creation
and artist development
Collaborating at a local and national level with partner theatres, third level education institutions, museums and other organisations.
La Briqueterie (FR) is the National Choreographic Development Centre of Val-de Marne (CDC), a not-for-profit association whose mission is to promote choreographic creation and artist development (through co-productions, studio space and artists’ residencies), transnational programmes and participatory activities to foster and support dance at multiple levels and for diverse audiences. In 2013, it moved into an old brick factory converted into a dedicated dance venue in Vitry-sur-Seine, in the outskirts of Paris.
The venue features three rehearsal studios, a fully equipped theatre, a courtyard with tiered seating and a landscaped garden. Since 2012, it has led and co-organised several projects supported by EU Culture 2007-2013 and Creative Europe as well as a series of international exchanges with non-EU countries. It organises the Biennale de danse du Val de Marne festival (in collaboration with over 20 partner theatres in the Region) and Les Plateaux (an international annual dance platform).
A dedicated outreach department works in close collaboration with the programming department, activating collaborations across sectors and art forms to better embed the programme into the local context, while expanding its reach and potential for stronger and longer-term impact and resonance. La Briqueterie is a member of IETM (International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts), a member of the Association of the Centres for Choreographic Development (A-CDC) in France and the French partner and presenter in the Aerowaves Network.
