Tanec Praha is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation founded in 1991 and currently has three basic missions. First, to organise high quality contemporary dance festivals (TANEC PRAHA and CZECH DANCE PLATFORM), including additional events (seminars, workshops, conferences, site-specifics etc.). Second, to manage a dance venue (PONEC), for production and creation of new work, notably in the field of contemporary dance and other artistic disciplines that mutually support and develop one another. Third, to develop international cooperation to help Czech dance artists to secure international coproduction, share experience and develop high quality artistic and community work.
Tanec Praha presents a wide range of Czech and international productions, regardless of size or recognition, as long as they fulfil the requirement of artistic quality. Historically TP’s various activities have developed in accordance with the needs of the Czech dance scene, in the European context. Tanec Praha is a member of professional international networks and EU funded large-scale projects such as European Dancehouse Network, Aerowaves, Be SpectACTive! and IETM. Tanec Praha has an extensive education programme for children and young people, in association with primary and secondary schools.
